If is it a black person then there will be at least 2 squads and if a white person - usually only one. He was right! He was stopped from driving away from a gas pump on Meno falls where he worked - and asked if he planned to pay for the gas. Fortunately, he had the receipt in his hand. The msg he got was that as a black person he could not possibly have a credit card. It is this personal connection to him - that keeps my heart open and hurting for all who daily face these situations.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11788370334836102107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1004337648926229350.post-86760800510197132932014-10-09T09:46:20.703-05:002014-10-09T09:46:20.703-05:001st rider represents devil who wants to be like Ch...1st rider represents devil who wants to be like Christ
2nd rider - wars that are part of this world
3rd rider - curse predicted in Genesis 3:17-19
4th rider - curse predicted in genesis 2:17Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07132455137520499846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1004337648926229350.post-35827629034142742952014-06-22T11:24:54.318-05:002014-06-22T11:24:54.318-05:00Can we forgive as God forgives? Should we even try to forget wrongs done to us? Isn't forgetting sin something else from forgiving sin? We are to leave the revenge to God and we need to forgive ourselves often and ask others to forgive us. What is forgiveness anyway? I think we should avoid companies, though, that take an open stand against God, marriage, and our constitution. Starbucks has a demon(pegan god) for their logo! Starbucks would prefer me not to have a gun...my constitution gives me that right to protect myself & family from government gone haywire or against evil people that want to kill me. Starbucks mocks God & scripture by supporting gay marriage. Marriage represents the relation between God & man. Why do I want to give my money to help a company that is fighting against all I believe in? Why can't I go to another coffee place that just likes selling coffee instead of one that takes an active stand against Christians & a free America. My first and hopefully internal reaction was to pull away and after pondering that, I think it was one personally unfamiliar and to I feel the media is forcing me to accept that lifestyle on their terms. As the process continued, I truly enjoyed them as people and clients. I chose to work for them as Christ would. I didn't feel I was accepting their lifestyle because of the work I did but then baking a cake brings me to a fuzzy line, constructing an abortion clinic goes way past the line. I do want the freedom to choose who I do business with. Others choose not to do business with Christian organizations because they're Christian, Chick-fil-A. God allows free will because that love is genuine but there are those who want to force acceptance in the name of ridding discrimination but we all discriminate and that's OK. I'm sure I've been discriminated against for work for age and countess other reasons and do I go on a media rampage demanding justice? No, I move on because I don't want to work for someone who was forced to hire me. I think we all agree ...Very interesting discussion. I think we all agree that others, including homosexuals, are to be treated with dignity, respect and yes, love. At the same time, we recognize that certain behaviors are sin. The question is when do our actions toward a person cross the line of giving approval to their behavior?
Honestly, I'm not sure.
Would you refuse to make a wedding cake for a Christian who was marrying a Muslim or an atheist?
What about a business owner's right to refuse service to someone based on a deeply held conviction? I would find that argument compelling had it not so often been abused. And many of the abuses were cloaked in the guise of religious beliefs. The result is that places of public accommodation are susceptible to equal protection laws.
Mr. Haugh's final point is very honest response. There are those who would force their belief systems down our throats.
I would add that we all have a gag reflex that kicks in when something is forced down our throat. I try very hard not to act reflexively. I want to use reason and I want my response to be guided by my faith. Sometimes it's hard to know exactly what that response should be. And sometimes it's just really hard to suppress our gag reflex.Jacknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1004337648926229350.post-73430618405360342702014-03-06T12:12:14.643-06:002014-03-06T12:12:14.643-06:00Good article, John. i agree with you... however I...Good article, John. i agree with you... however I might make a distinction between serving and loving. There is probably at least an 80% overlap, but there are some differences too. The Bible calls me to love my neighbor. Most often that means serving them. Yet loving them well doesn't always mean serving them according to their requests. Sometimes they might want me to do something for them that isn't loving; like lying to cover something up or helping them do something unhealthy. For example. I'm a pastor. If my lesbian neighbors came to ask me to do their wedding... the most loving thing I could do is to open the Bible and explain why I won't conduct their wedding ceremony. Serving them by doing what they ask would not be very loving in that case. This wedding cake guy is somewhere in between "being nice by serving them" (which we all affirm) and giving his blessing on their wedding ceremony (which we can't affirm).Patrick Dnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1004337648926229350.post-19484740238968240392014-03-05T06:11:52.061-06:002014-03-05T06:11:52.061-06:00As a kid, Disney's Old Yeller was foundational...As a kid, Disney's Old Yeller was foundational to my understanding of the circle of life. Jesus tells us to love our neighbors, pray for our enemies, turn the other cheek, walk the extra mile, and even pay our taxes. The Apostle Paul expands on this by telling us to submit to all governing authorities and to pay taxes to them. Peter continues this same line of thought when he urges Christians to honor all people and honor the King.

The difficulty lies in trying to separate our American cultural influences of liberty and freedom -and to subsume them to the higher calling of following Jesus.
